I wanted to build materials and a rendering setup in Unreal so that I could support upcoming stylized projects. I made this model and props as a good stylized test to judge the visual aspects and workflows of my shader and rendering setup. I would love to return to this character and finish it as a complete piece!

My initial inspiration for wanting to develop stylized rendering comes from my love and inspiration from drawing. I wanted to make a setup that would allow for unique line quality and a variety of hatching and shadow and light rendering.

The material setup I created allows for artist full control of customization of outline thickness, variation and edge detection for both exterior and interior outlines. It also includes controls for shadow and highlight falloff and pattern control for shadow hatching, highlights, as well as the outlines. I wanted to make something that was both artist friendly as well as versatile to support a range of visual styles.
